Another issue that is haunting a large number of users is the display brightness problem. According to reports, Apple Studio Display brightness is not working for many users. But fret not, you have arrived at the right spot to bring the monitor’s brightness back on track.

Apple Studio Display Brightness Not Working? Fix It!

Understanding the root cause of the issue upfront will help you find the right solution to the issue. So, let’s get out of it.

Why is the Brightness of My Studio Display Not Working?

Without ruling out the possibility of a hardware failure, a software bug could very well be in the play. The reason why I put a lot of blame on a software bug is that recently it has always been at the forefront of issues that have cropped up on Apple Studio Display.  If the problem turns out to be a byproduct of a software glitch, there is a good chance that you can get rid of it with ease. However, if it is related to hardware, you will have to get the monitor repaired by an authorized service center. Hopefully, the former happens to be the case with you.

1. Restart Your Studio Display

When it comes to sorting out a weird issue, a soft reset has a decent track record. So, I’m going to start the guide with this simple yet highly effective tip.

Unplug your Apple Studio Display from the wall outlet. Then, remove all the devices, accessories, and peripherals that are connected to your Studio Display.  Next, wait for a few seconds and then turn on the display.  After that, connect all the accessories and devices to your display. Next up, click on the Control Center icon at the top right corner of the screen and then drag the display slider to adjust the brightness.

Now, use your computer for some time to check if the brightness issue is gone.

2. Disable Auto Brightness

Just like iOS, macOS also comes with the auto brightness feature. What makes it so handy is the ability to smartly adjust the brightness of your Mac according to the lighting conditions in the surrounding. It’s designed to not only enhance the viewing experience but also improve the battery life. Unfortunately, the auto brightness does not always work as expected. When it happens, you may find the brightness of your Mac either too high or too low. Hence, disable the auto brightness.

Go to the System Settings app on your Mac. After that, scroll down and choose Displays. Next, turn off the toggle for Auto Brightness.

3. Turn Off the True Tone Display

True Tone is an Apple display technology that is designed to automatically adapt displays to make colors appear consistent in different ambient lighting conditions. As a result, images appear more natural in different lighting situations. While True Tone is a highly user-friendly feature, try turning it off as it might be causing the brightness issue due to misfunctioning.

Head over to the System Settings app on your Mac > Scroll down and choose Displays. Then turn off the switch for True Tone.

4. Disable Night Shift

When enabled Night Shift automatically shifts the colors of the display to the warmer end of the color spectrum. It makes the viewing more soothing for the eyes and also shields them from burning. Thus, you have a better night’s sleep even after several hours of work or play. Again, Night Shift is a very helpful feature and works as expected. But there are times when it tends to go wrong and that could impact the overall viewing experience. So, try disabling it.

Navigate to the System Settings app on your Mac -> Displays -> Night Shift and then make sure that it’s disabled.

5. Update Software

If the brightness of your Studio Display is still not working, there could be a software bug behind the issue. Hence, updating the software would be the right way to go. Even though Apple has not yet acknowledged the brightness issue on Apple Studio Display, a permanent solution to the issue could very well be bundled in the update.

On your Mac, open the System Settings app > General > Software Update. Then, download and install the latest version of macOS. Note that if your Mac is running macOS Monterey, head into the System Preferences app > Software Update and then go through the usual update process.

6. Contact Apple Support

Should the problem persist, make sure to contact Apple Support for help without any more delay. The issue could very well be due to a hardware failure. Hence, it would be better to get the Studio Display repaired through Apple or an authorized service center at the earliest.
